Is Flax Seed Oil the same as Linseed Oil?

Is Flax Seed Oil the same as Linseed Oil?

No. Whilst the oil comes from the same plant, the grades of seed and the extraction techniques used are completely different. Globally, linseed oil is the term used for industrial grade oil used for staining wood for example, which is often extracted using solvents and techniques to ensure all oil is removed from the seed. For food grade oil, the term used is flax seed oil, and a cold-pressing technique is used to extract the oil, which ensures a better quality end result. At Fourflax we only use cold-pressed, human grade flax seed oil in our products, so we call it flax seed oil.
